Our Services

I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy sessions online.

The issues I work with include;

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

"Counselling and Psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people either short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing".

(British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, 2013).

Counselling and Psychotherapy involves talking on a one to basis about issues that are causing difficulties and together with the therapist exploring and working through these.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

At the current time the BACP does not distinguish any recognisable difference between the terms counselling and psychotherapy, however this is an ongoing debate between different schools of therapy and regulatory bodies.

Traditionally counselling has tended to focus on more recent and current issues in an individual's life whereas psychotherapy incorporates longer term and more in depth work often exploring issues from the past. Counsellors are usually qualified to diploma level whereas those calling themselves psychotherapists usually have post graduate training up to Masters level.

What is important when seeking a therapist is the standard of the individual's practise and their registration and accountability with a professional body.

How can it help me? Many people find it helpful to have some space away from their everyday lives where they can talk to a trained professional about issues which may be troubling them. Whilst friends and family can be an invaluable source of support during difficult times, sometimes talking to a therapist who is outside of and not emotionally involved in the situation can provide a fresh perspective, new insights and help us to see things clearer and handle life's issues in a different way.

What do I have to do? Counselling and Psychotherapy is a collaborative process with us both agreeing to work together. Consistent attendance (except in unavoidable circumstances) and a commitment to actively engage in the work is important. How much time and energy an individual is prepared to invest in the process is often a significant factor in how beneficial they find therapy.

How long does it last? Sessions last 1 hour and usually take place weekly.

There is no set time limit for either counselling or psychotherapy as everyone is different and will have different needs. Some people find six sessions enough to help them on their way whilst others choose to work through deep rooted issues over a few years.
